Linux is an operating system.

It is generally much more complicated than Windows if the user isn't too tech-savvy, but that shouldn't be a reason not to try it out. Most distributions allow you to dual-boot it with Windows, or, even better, have a Live-CD version so you can try it out without getting rid of your Windows system.

Linux is a unix-like operating system, with a graphical desktop such as Gnome or KDE, a Windows user can easily get around. Installing Linux could be both easy and hard, linux distros usually come bundled with nearly all drivers you might need. However, they are not always easy to install. Distros like Red Hat/Fedora, Suse/OpenSUSE, Ubuntu, have fairly easy to use wizard like installers. Distros such as Gentoo are much more difficult to install and requires some knowledge. But before you install, you can try Linux without installing by making a knoppix CD, by downloading the knoppix iso from the website and making your own CD which you can boot and use without installing onto your computer.

No it isnt like windows it is more like wizzing on a electric fence it can be pleasent at first then WHAMMM it hits ya good!
