I am an anthropologist, and a U.S. soldier (National Guards). The show would be about myself and another travelong across the world, and visiting and experiencing many things. I am also going to do crazy stuff such as skydiving, ect, ect. We will travel to archeological sites, so it will be educational, but like I said, there's going to be much more involved. I am going to do a little bit of research in each visited country and ask a few questions, and compare them to see how the different people of the world would respond. I plan on later publishing the results, but believe me, it will be a fun show. The thing is, I am in the National Guards, so here comes the main question that I need to know.

If I (Still) come back to America, to serve my one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year, and also go to serve my country if and when I am called up, will I be allowed to be out of the country doing this? I mean would the army tolerate it?

I hope so, this is a really great opportunity.

It sounds like you need to apply to be transferred to the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR). Speak to your Readiness NCO/full-timer and they will explain how to do this. You will probably have to provide documentation so be prepared with your paperwork. Other than that - best of luck!

Sounds great! You will need to contact your Readiness NCO at your duty station and ask your questions. I don't see why it would be much of a problem, depending on which countries you are visiting, and as long as you can fulfill your duties to the Army.

You need to ask your command and your production company. You command may adjust your contract or waive part of your commitment if they see a benefit to it. You may have to extend your service by the period of time you are gone. Bring the production schedule with you so you can discuss it fairly with the Guard.

Ask your production company if they have encountered this problem before. They may already know the process and can help you deal with it.
