Well, no because Reiki is a healing technique and meditation is about self introspection. That would be like asking if someone who emmerses themselves in their studies to become a doctor has fallen into some sort of physician's cult. Sometimes people will retreat from the world and emerse themselves into meditation or certain studies, but only to learn and discover things about themselves. Like when I was going through some health issues awhile back, I retreated from the world because I was depressed. I did a lot of meditation. But the reason I did that was because *that* is how I heal myself emotionally. I came out of it after a year happier and healthier than I was.
Don't worry too much about your cousin. When you see him/her - is (s)he depressed? She might be working out a problem. If not, chances are (s)he will come out of this on his/her own. That doesn't mean she will stop meditating or practicing Reiki. It's just that when she emmerses herself like this, chances are (s)he needs this time for him/herself right now to solve a problem or find what (s)he's looking for.

Reiki is based on a power that is not from God. As a way of life, sure people become absorbed into it. Though it does not meet the criteria of a "cult," it does draw heavily from the "occult" and from Eastern Mysticism.

Not when guided to learn properly. I have found some who leanr Reiki branch out and learn a lot of other ideas about energy as well. Some good . . . some questionable. So if your cousin is straying from the one focus, then you may have to get concerned.

Anyone, practicing anything, can go overboard with it and display cult-like behaviors. Just look at Jerry Falwell.
