I usually use half brandy and half white rum. Many people just use rum, but I find the brandy adds a richer taste. A smooth Kentucky bourbon can work quite well too. Sometimes I add a bit of Bailey's, but not too much as the taste can be overpowering. Just don't use vodka or tequila and you'll probably be fine.

Since I am from the south I know alot of people that swear by good ole' White Liquor; however, the high alchol content can sour the nog quickly. Our family always used a good quality brandy or spiced rum. The sweetness of the alcohol complements the creaminess of the nog! Fantastic!

Most eggnogs are made with a mixture of rum and then either whisky or brandy. Whisky and/or brandy in higher quantity than rum. However, there are thousands of recipes and you can't go wrong if you wish to experiment a little.

People traditionally use bourbon in their eggnog, but I like a good brandy because the sweetness works better in my opinion.
