In World War 2 both sides thought they had God on their side.
In the American war of independence, both sides thought they had God on their side.
Pretty much every warring nation or people has thought they had God on their side.
It's ego, the whole "Our Cause is just because we say so" thing.

Leaving one side the possibility that some people could claim that and be right, enough on opposite sides of conflicts have claimed "god on their side" simultaneously to make it clear that the claim cannot equate to the actuality in every case. And if God exists, that is definitely blasphemy. If He doesn't it is merely delusion.
"Gott MIt Uns" (God With Us) was on German uniforms in WW1 and WW2. The British and Americans would have differed. They had their own chaplains.
That will do to make the case, I think. There are more controversial, more recent, divides to which this applies.

Hmm. Questions like this sort of answer the ancient mystery of why saying or spelling the name of "God" became censored. Forms like "G-d" & such and others from different religions to their version of the Supreme Being.
Making it personal like that often makes it easy to blurt out the name for whatever you're getting into. As if you'll prefix whatever you're aiming to do with the "God" name to justify it or bring credence to it.
Even if it's baking chocolate chip cookies. It's God's chocolate chip cookies!
Whatever 'God' is, it doesn't "pick sides". That's a function of the infamous human ego that sees the human as more important than it really is.
To be universal means just that: EVERYTHING.
Picking a side sort of cancels that out.

Agreed. I hate it when people say that. They don't have a right to say that because how could they possibly *know* for a fact that is the case? I find that people who usually say that are saying it for their own ego-gratification because the people who say stuff like that are usually the most non-spiritual, judgemental, self righteous people on the face of this planet. Those who believe those who say such things are gullible. IMO, God, whether sentient or not, doesn't choose sides and would have nothing to do with any of us unless we sought it/him/her out on our own (if sentience applied). Otherwise seeking the answers about God (i.e. the universe) is just science.

It kinda depends. No one has the right to say that god is on their side. God is on everyones side. So really, it would depend on how they meant it. Like if someone were going to fight someone or something and said "I'll win because god is on my side" then no. But if they were just hoping it would be a good day and said it i guess its true. It all really just depends.

The only blasphemy known to God is denying the Holy Spirit and His work! God IS on your side if you obey him as a born-again believer. No other god need be on a believer's side!

Not if you're His child. Is it right to say your earthly mom and dad are on your side? Well, same thing with your Heavenly Father, although it's even better, because He's all powerful!

sure they have the right and they'd be right. i mean ... if "God" is omnipresent then "God" is on all sides.
PS. righto lookn2cjc .. nothing like having an all powerful super being backing you up. no small amount of egotism there.
