EFC means "Expected Family Contribution" : how much the gov't or the school should expect that you can contribute towards paying your educational expenses. No idea how to tell how much aid you'll receive.

Expected Family Contribution. This is the number that your family is expected to contrute to your education based on the income information from your FAFSA. Whether you will qualify for grants (money you do not have to repay) is dependent upon your schools Cost of Attendance in comparison to your EFC, so you really need to talk to your schools Financial Aid Office for specific eligibility information.

If you do not qualify for grants, then student loans may be an option--this of course is money you would have to repay eventually. Again, talk to your Financial Aid Office for information and application materials for a federal student loan.

EFC = Estimated Family Contribute.

EFC comes after you fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). http://www.fafsa.ed.gov

If your EFC is 4822, that means that your Estimated Family Contribution is $4,822. Your family will come up with your EFC and the school and the government will try to come up with the rest of the tuition and fees.

Expected family contribution - This means that your family is expected to pay $4822.00 toward your college expenses next year, based on the informaiton you provided on your FAFSA. If this is way beyond your parents' means, then you need to see your Financial Aid office and discuss other options for funding your educaiton.

Don't let money be the reason you don't go to college!
