the war in bosnia was about the serbs, croats, and muslims killing and commiting genocide against eachother. It was over land and religous differences.
Yugoslovia was split into new countries like Serbia, Bosnia & Hercegoniva, Slovenia, and Macedonia.
Yugoslovia is still around, just not as big
Bosnia & Hercegoniva is the only dangerous country today.

In the late 90's, Slobodan Milosevic became president in Yugoslavia. To keep his popularity, he courted the Serbian vote by pushing anti-Muslim agenda, since historically Serbian Christians had a significant empire in the area to which he appealed to as a form of nationalism.
He subsequently started a campaign of ethnic cleansing in Bosnia and later in Kosovo against the Muslims in those regions. The country subsequently split apart into different areas due to the violence in the region. For a few years the UN, US and Europe turned a blind eye to all of this, as nobody wanted to start a conflict in the region.
After three years of the Bosnians and later Albanians being forced from their homes, raped, killed and having their towns burned down, President Clinton finally decided to change his foreign policy towards the area. After some bombing of the capitol and with our army about to enter Yugoslavia, Milosevic finally pulled out of Bosnia and Kosovo just as US and NATO forces pulled into the regions. Part of the agreement that was reached with the now broke up Yugoslavia was that we also disband any Muslim militias that were formed.
Right now Kosovo is still under UN protection being guarded by NATO troops including US troops, and I believe Bosnia eventually gained it's independence, as I was deployed in Kosovo several years ago. I believe the current plan is that Kosovo will go back to Yugoslavia, what's left of it after the split up of Yugoslavia during the war.
