It would be considered inappropriate to wear a mini skirt to work in a professional atmosphere. Most companies require that their female employees wear knee length or longer skirts to work.
I think that companies are worried that if a female is wearing a short skirt to work, it can distract the male employees as well as could spark some comments. This could mean trouble for a company.
And also, there really is no way to make a mini-skirt look dressy & professional. Leave it for when you go out with the girls.

The only reason to wear a miniskirt in any place is to get people to look at your legs. Getting people to look at your legs while you are supposed to be a professional at work is distracting and pointless. Ipso facto, not a good practise to wear a miniskirt to work. There are lots and lots of other places to wear one, so you really wouldn't be missing out on anything.

I don't see the problem wearing a miniskirt at work, my g/f wears a miniskirt almost everyday and she works in a office (obviously not a micro skirt but a still short miniskirts).
I'm Italian and i don't find it strange

Unless you work somewhere where sexy attire is appropriate to the workplace (and I'm not being smart, there are a lot of places where it might be, like if you're a bartender at a club), then no. Most likely your boss and coworkers won't have the nerve to tell you outright how inappropriate and unprofessional you look, but you can bet your career won't go anywhere.

Well, it depends. A mini-skirt is actually any skirt that the hem does not reach the floor when you kneel. Lately I've been seeing girls wearing skirts that barely clear their butt cracks. I would say anything shorter than one inch above the knee is too short for a professional setting. Those are too short for any occasion, except maybe a stripper or hooker.

Im sure it looks good but kinda whorey. I mean why do you feel the need to wear it at work? Are you there to earn a living or pick up lovers?

I think your going beyond "work etiquette" but if that's what your comfortable in wear whatever you like just as long it's formal and not too short

It probably would be for me. I am a 47 year old male. I might get some funny looks.
Most women who wear mini skirts shouldn't to be honest.

It all depends on the line of work. If you work for a church or something, then yes, it would be bad. Otherwise, I see nothing wrong with it.

it is unprofessional and generally not age appropriate unless perhaps you aren't actually working around people and are very young....otherwise....even business casual calls for a skirt to fall, to the very least, the knee.
