these days the word God can often be used as an umbrella term for lots of definitions! do you think perhaps we could find a better word/s to describe our varying beliefs, because "God" may bring negative connotations?

It is the supernatural entity that humans use to abdicate full responsibility over their lives and justify their behaviour, however morally questionable, or seemingly at odds with the beliefs they expound.
As far as I am concerned, when people choose to say that something must be done because it is god's will or it follows his word, I get uncomfortable. I consider this to be not dissimilar to the Nuremberg defence, and I don't think most people bought that one. Certainly not for the executive puppet masters, and in our own lives, we must take responsibility for all of our own actions..
I'm sure this will attract a lot of bile from many who will not have read and understood what I have written, nor bwe able to spell their own responses.

God is our fiction. When we cannot find solution in this world for our problems we are hopeless and only option which remains is to call somebody from outer world to fix it. God is excellent choice. God - Science is vice versa proportion rate. Whenever we discover something we don't need god to explain this. Rain, fire, earthquackes, etc, all this things were in gods domain few thousand years ago. Today these evants are normal things and we can explain them easily. Problem is that we have so many unexplained things in our world and we need to have a common name for all of them. The easiest way is to say "only god knows". Maybe I'll burn in hell because of my words, but I don't think so. There is no 100% evidence that he exists, I didn't see him then how I can be punished for my opinion only?

My definition of God is an all caring, all loving, Being who is there at times of distress, ready to listen to prayers and supplications to him.

Some may disagree and that is up to them but this is my opinion and I am happy with it.

I don't think many christians would be happy if someone came along and tried to outlaw the word God.

One of the main reasons for negativity around the word God is because people tend to blame God for all the bad that is happening in the world today. They can't understand why God doesn't stop the earthquakes, disasters and so on. They don't stop to think that they are playing into the Devil's hands by assigning all blame to God. Satan wants people to stop turning to God and it makes him very happy when people lose their faith.

I love this question. You can get into suuuuch arguments.
By definition, though, God is infinite and therefore cannot be defined. Indefinable by definition!
Yes, I do think the word should be pensioned off because of all it's connotations.
My personal favourite name is - The Eternal.

I have no concept of God........the very fact the name starts with a capital letter implies a 'person or living entity'. Same applies to 'Allah' and 'Mohammed'........same thing.......different label. They are all different brands of the same philosophy.........just a different bias. Forgiving 'God', vengeful 'God'.
That said.......if I take the term god to mean the spirit within each individual, I find that much more meaningful. However, some prefer to follow an 'organised religion' rather than dig deep and find the god within themselves because that implies taking personal responsibilty rather than making excuses for whatever......in the name of their chosen religion.

If there is a "god" then he is not some being that is personally interested in anybody. It is some sort of supreme being that has set down rules and systems that has allowed the universe, the earth and life to appear and develop for reasons which we will never know

Funny to many God means "all things". Yet no god, by my definition, would ever need to kill. God and kill are not compatible terms. So much so that christianity is sadly acceptable by humans. How can one knowingly follow a deity that openly kills...

The Universe in its entirety.

In this politically correct society perhaps God should be called a 'nominated diety'.

God is an imaginary friend. Everyone needs an imaginary friend, and what better imaginary friend to have than one who is all powerful and all knowing.

I'm a saint and I'm holy, oh and by the way don't forget to read your Bible.
