Dog shows are VERY political..the judges often place the dogs they know..Sometimes they don't even look past the owner..That is why the majors are required to be from different judges.

there is no way to tell . we who show get to know a lot of people and you hear tales of favourites but there are also instances of newcomers taking 1st prises over others I had it happen to me when My ***** was not placed in one class but beat a competitor from that class two classes later. I did not know the judge and apparently mine moved better in the second class.
if judges favour a particular person rather than the dogs then entries will go down.the dog world is bitchy and judges who are corrupt soon loose bookings and their credibility. some judges have their own ideas of the best dogs and do not judge to the breed standard again this soon becomes apparent.
we all have our favourite Type colour etc and this will give some preference over equally good dogs but at the end\of the day we trust them and loose or win we all go home with the best dog!¬ if we don't then we should not be in the business.

You don't? I have been told by a breeder who shows at crufts that it is a case of who you no, rather than what dog!!! Makes you think, so judges don't like little dogs so they wont chose Small dogs etc, i took one of my girls to a show, she was the only pedigree girl in the group the dog that won was the fattest dog i have ever seen, it had mud all up its legs, she was a cross breed with something, (dont no what) and she got 1st prize, So she obviously knew the lady who was showing her dog. I no you always feel your dog/s are the best in a group but really any of the others should of came first compared to her.

You can't tell and what is more - the more often you show your dog, the more judges you will get to know.
At the end of the day - the best dog wins, even if the judge knows the owners.
You just have to accept it and ensure that you show your dog at a variety of competitions and therefore under a variety of judges.

You can't obviously. But judges are very careful if people they happen to know are showing under them. Judges don't live in glass bubbles, you know, they have friends too. Doesn't take long for a judge to get a bad rep. if he cocsistently puts up dogs other than the best, then the judging assignments stop coming in.

Once I went to a dog show with my Aunt, who is a chihuahua breeder. She had brought along a dog I liked because I liked her, and entered her because I said "she's the best puppy ever! She'll win!" (This by the way, is the only chihuahua I've ever loved, and occurred about 22 years ago.)

The first run she was very surprised that "Angel" beat out "Chico", her CDX (I guess that some big championship thing). Chico was her best, and he was going for another championship... only to be beat out by 2 rank amatures. We took it up to best in breed, and won that too. After we took best in toy group, my Aunt insisted on taking over for the "Best in Show" run. They lost.

The judge *did* know my Aunt, but didn't realize Angel was hers. He pulled her aside after the show, and told her the reason he'd placed us above everyone else was the obvious love between us... it was obvious that *I* didn't know what I was doing, but Angel did everything tight, when *I* handled her. She did it for me and refused to do it for my Aunt. When my Aunt took her into the ring, she behaved as she had expected she would from the start, frightened of everything... and she all but dashed to me at the end.

He hadn't judged the "best in show" but he said Angel would have had a fair shot at it had *I* done the run instead of my Aunt. That it was rare to see such *love* between a show dog and her handler. And that love wins championships.

The judge may well know the person. There is no rule to say that the judge shouldn't know them. However judges are supposed to be impartial and in most cases this is so. Only a handful of judges are corrupt.

LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That is all I can say!!!

Most all these people are SOOOO clueless!!!!!!! Dogs losing one class, but winning "two classes later", and mixed breeds showing......I would venture to say most of these people have no idea what they are talking about and may have never even SEEN a dog show!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Trust me, if you show for years, you have seen almost every judge!!! Handlers that show EVERY weekend, and show maybe 25 dogs per day....don't you think the judges MAY know them????
