Pets mean different things to different people. My dog is definitely a family member but other people aren't so sentimental. My friend's dog lives in a kennel outside which I would never do. I guess it's personal choice and down to the individual and how they feel about animals and ultimately the one they have chosen to include in their lives.

YES dogs are family members to all in the family BUT if a census taker comes along they will not accept the animal as a member of the family to be listed on the form.

It depends on which family they are part of.
Some people get a dog from a "free puppies" ad in the paper for their kids, then tie it up outside on a 6 foot leash for the rest of it's natural life.
To some people it is just an animal to use for work-hunting, guard dog, etc. They may take better care of the dog, but more for the same reason you take care of your car than from affection.
Then some people return the same commitment the dog has towards them and it becomes a part of the family, becoming a part of everyday life-going on outings, learning manners, etc.
99.9% of dogs want to be part of a family, it's up to the owners to decide how they will treat the dog.

Totally! Dogs are completely family members. Within a month of adopting a dog you can't stay away!

Depends on the point of view. Some people would consider their dogs a member of the family while others do not.

Yes. And so are cats. I dont know about the family budgie and hamsters.
In some old Asian folklore, they claim that your pets are counted half a child. and that they look after your household in the same manner as a member of your family.
In choosing the brides and grooms for the human children of the household, they will observe the way the family pets react to prospective mates.
If Fido says no way, you may get dumped. so be careful. Lol.

Most of them should be. Although I have had experience with some that you just could not call a family dog, some working breeds are best left in a kennel and not socialized.

It depends how close the dogs are to you. If they just can't live without you and crash when you're away, you can consider them family. If they just sit there and laze around like a hamster or something, I'm not sure. But I base choosing my family members on love. If you love your pets and they love you, you're family. My kittens love me and follow me everywhere. I love them, so therefore, in my book, they're family.

I have Doberman Pinschers and Yes they are our family members. I say they are my four legged kids and then of course I have my two legged kids. lol. My dogs mean a lot to me and I receive so much love from them. I lost three to Rainbow Bridge and it still leaves an empty place in my heart.
