Chi's ceramic iron is great between $100 to 160. The best way to prevent split ends use a light weight leave-in conditioner(BioKen Water is my favorite) right after you shower and a serum (Redken Glass or Kiwi are my two favorites) prior to using the iron. Then section off hair in pieces using a gliding motion. I have especially frizzy hair so I use the serum after the flat iron too.

The best flat iron that I know of it a cereamic Chi iron. But they are outrageously expensive. I'm a hairdresser, and the one I use at home is from Wal-Mart. It's and Andis and was under $20. I have a Hot Tool Cereamic iron that cost a lot, but I prefer the Andis.

CHI Ceramic Hair Straightener is my favorite.
It provides ceramic technology for flash quick heating with the far infrared. New easier grip with ergonomic design and with felt at the tip for easier hold. The one inch is $139.95

* Traditional copper coil can cause more damage and dry the hair
-Ergonomically Designed
* 10 foot heavy duty electrical cord
* 360 degree swivel connection to prevent tangling
* On-Off switch on the side for easy access
* Adjustable temperature control
* Light weighted
* Fits in a standard curling iron station
-Power
* "Flash Heating" in only seconds
* Saves energy - CHI only uses 20-25 watts of electricity
-Versatile
* For straight looks
* Flips
* Curls
* Dreadlocks
* Crimping
* To prepare dry hair cuts

I use a "jilbere de paris- definition series". Now do not let its low price fool you, its $59.99, ceramic and goes up to 449 degrees. Pretty crazy huh? now while its not the best one out there, its the best for the price.
The absolute best ones are the Ion brand. They go for around $80-$120.

As long as it's a ceramic flat iron, my hair stylist recommends the revlon brand.
