People call them "pantyhoses" in American English, but English call them "tights". Is that correct? And some other terms I've got are "stockings", "socks",...

Any other terms? What the differences between these words?

Pantyhose are what they call tights in the UK, but tights in US are heavier denier for sports wear.

Stockings have no panties connected to them and they can be connected to a garter belt or be the hold up type. The kind that take a garter belt are the thinnest of all the wear and the most delicate, the hold ups are more like pantyhose with a lot of Lycra in them to hold them up.

I do not know where the mis conception that stockings are heavier than pantyhose came from. Stockings are by far the most sheer, and expensive and exquisite. Pantyhose buy definition must have stretch in them to stay up, and stretch always results in a thicker product with less sheerness.

Pantyhose, stockings, nylons. There is no difference between these words in my vocabulary, they are synonymous.

In my vocabulary, tights are something different -- they are usually a colored stretchy material, not transparent, and used for dance costumes and occasionally in wearing apparel. I wore tights and a leotard when I took ballet when I was about 9 years old.

stockings are generally considered to be the individual stocking, as worn before pantyhose were created; socks are heavier, of thick material, as you would wear with tennis shoes. They are called nylons, also, but that is usually meant to be the individual ones as well.
