Just got back from Aruba last Friday. My bf and I loved it so much we plan to make it an annual vacation destination. the beaches are serene, very clean, mild waves, turquoise waters. the high rise resorts on palm beach can get overcrowded but the low rise section is intimate and casual, and very low key. the island's main source of income is tourism, and the Arubans are very welcoming. just jumping into a taxi became an adventure b/c the Arubans are proud of their country and will go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and have experienced everything Aruba has to offer. Steak and seafood are usually the main entrees and you have several excellent restaurants to choose from. I would agree that the place is for an older, laid back crowd, but I loved that. No spring break here. Activities include snorkeling, diving, jet ski, horseback riding, ATVing, butterfly farm, wildlife park and donkey sanctuary, and plenty of beach, beach, beach. it has a very small downtown area that doesn't get too noisy and there are only a few choice places for nightlife. Again, that didn't bother me b/c in the end we enjoyed watching the sunset at night from our patio, followed by an excellent dinner and a moonlight walk on the beach. the weather is phenomenal; windy, but its warm, not uncomfortably hot so the wind is refreshing.

Never...First, its the ugliest, flatest, driest, windiest Caribbean island. Nothing lush or tropical about it. So windy that sitting on the beach isn't an option. You have to sit by the pool to escape the stinging sand that is blowing. And you are looking out at oil tankers most of the time, not tropical sailboats! With all the other gorgeous Caribbean Islands to chose from, why anyone would go to Aruba is a mystery. Maybe because it is cheaper(how else can they get people to go) But, you get what you pay for...

Of course I would visit Aruba for a vacation. The reason is simple, it is soooooo beautiful. The beaches are woonderful and the locals (from what I hear) are pretty friendly and best of all the island is outside of the hurricane belt.

I was in Aruba seven or so years ago. Lovely island except it was very, very windy and I HATE the wind....so I didn't like it. I don't know if it was time of year, or maybe I was on the wrong side of the island. Good scuba diving though. There is a wonderful resort, I think called Casa Linda or something like that, beautiful one and two bedroom apartments, and very reasonable, huge swimming pool, right on the ocean.

I have been there and it is very nice. Caters more towards the 45 and up crowd. You MUST try the meat there. It is usually Argentinean beef, which is sensational! The beaches are also very lovely and there is a lot of shopping you can get in as well! Go and have fun!

Not unless you like doing nothing but sitting on the beach with nothing to do.
Very boring to me.
I'd rather take a drive cross country.
