I will be returning to live in Australia in the new year, and will be looking to kit out my new pad. I have worked out that it will be cheaper to buy furniture in Australia, however I am now wondering about electrical goods and whether or not it would be cheaper to have them shipped from the US. That is considering they are generally alot cheaper over here???

Better check with an electrical company to see if the stuff you buy here will work on the electric service in Australia!
I've heard that electricity in some other countries is a different voltage, or cycle, and the plugs might not be the same, either. So, go carefully, ask more questions of an electrician or a mfgr. of the equipment!

I have a customer that moved here from California a couple of years ago and he bought "everything" he and his wife owned in a 20ft container. Unfortunately once he got here, he spent an absolute fortune with an electrician changing over electrical products. He also found that some items just couldn't be changed ie. his computer so he needed to buy a new one anyway.

My suggestion, sell what you can. Make as much money as possible. If you want to get an idea of what pricing is like on electrical goods here, try the websites of our electrical retails. www.retravision.com.au - just a suggestion. It will at least give you an idea. Bear in mind that you can negotiate pricing with most electrical retailers.

Good luck and welcome to Australia!
