I know the obvious about the sex thing but if they are not doing that, is it illegal just to be dating? Does anyone know??

Ok, the deal here is that I am the mom of the 15 year old. The boy, who is only 17 right now but will be 18 in March, is a really cool kid. He's very respectful to me and her and their relationship seems to be going very well, without sex. My daughter an I talk a lot so I know. But her stepdad keeps telling me this is illegal in March.

There are no laws that dictate dating. The only thing that might come up is if the 15 year old's parents are against her dating, then they have a right to prevent her from dating as long as she is under 18.

Technically yes, if she's a raving psycho all she has to do is say rape if you dump her and your labeled forever. That's of course a worse case scenario. If her parents like you then I'd say it's cool. If they don't know you introduce yourself. I know as a father if my 15 yr old daughter brought home an 18 yr old my first question would be, "can't you find someone your own age? ", and I would give him a very hard time til he proved himself decent. Keep it all in the open and you should be fine.

It's not a question of legal it's more of a moral topic. It is wrong for an 18 year old to date a 15 year old it's just wrong.

no but it is not appropriate. If he is 18 and willing to date a 15 year old it is obvious that 1) HE IS A LOSER 2) HE WANTS TO HAVE SEX WHICH IS ILLEGAL IN MOST STATES 3) THIS 15YR OLD NEEDS TO RAISE HER STANDARDS AND LOOK FOR A NICE GUY HER OWN AGE

Well I don't date anyone younger than 18 and I'm 16. I've never did the hanky panky and none of the guys that I've dated have went to jail. My ex, lifelong boyfriend is also an "adult". He's not in jail either although he should be. Basterrrd.

when I was 15, I dated a 19 year old and we didn't have sex or anything. But I think thats what eventually broke us up, because usually a guy of that age won't wait around for 3 years to have sex with you. Unless they were saving themselves for marriage to begin with.

It's not illegal to date but there is a big difference in what you two might want out of the relationship...and I doubt he'll wait 2 yrs to want to have sex.

It's illegal because the 15 year old is a minor. If the boy kisses her then it's a form of molestation.

first of all... I love the answers on here... priceless...
and, NO, it's not a crime to be strictly DATING. As far as other things go... keep it simple. You should probably check with your parents beforehand and see what they think of it.
Afterall, if something DID happen, they are basically "in charge of you" and legal action could be taken against the 18 year-old.
