If its good for a baby, it is probably not harmful for your dog.
I would suggest baby shampoo over soap anytime. Use very little shampoo, Dissolve about a teaspoon only in warm water, about an empty dishdetergent sized bottle full. Cap it and wash your pooch that way.
Avon shampoo, any of them is very gentle and mild and lathers quite a lot.
The reason for not using too much soap is very important.
You do not want to wash off normal oils from your pets body. If you have ever seen frizzy hair, triple that thought and that will be how your dog will look like.

Yes. I just got a puppy from the SPCA and he smelled so bad. I just gave him a bath using regular soap. The only thing you have to watch out for is it's eyes and ears. Its the worst when they get soap in their ears, because they sometimes get infected and such. You can also use baby soap or regular shampoo. Use whatever has the least perfumes because they tend to dry the dogs skin. Good luck!

maybe if you just made the water a little soapy and then rinsed him off with the water, it would probably be o.k.
But you definitely want dog shampoo, their skin can be very sensitive to stuff that doesn't bother humans. If you have an emergency that can't wait until you get to the store, you do what you have to, but otherwise, its best to use stuff designed for their skin. Generally, it is a good idea to keep doggie shampoo on hand for whatever your dog gets into, instead of waiting for the need to arise.

it should be ok, but dogs specially puppy are a little more sensitive, when I washed my dog with regular soap, he got a bad rash and an eye infection. I would suggest to probably wait until you can get puppy shampoo.

I would advise you NOT to use ivory soap. Just go to the pet store and buy some puppy shampoo.

Your dog is supposed to smell like a dog. It would be better for his skin to wait until you get dog shampoo.

It should be okay since it is not highly perfumed and as long as your dog does not have sensitive skin.

It's probably okay, although you'll have to be careful not to get it in his eyes.
