You don't have to have a precut tree for him to decorate or brown paper to make Rudolph. It is more interesting to show him Christmas trees and reindeer and ornaments. Then when you get back, give him some materials and let him make his own decorations. It lets him be more creative and he can make his own decisions about what he wants to make. I work at a daycare and a 4 year old made a red snowman. When I asked why, he said that the snowman had drank red coolaid. So if your kids Rudolph is green, ask why. Or if his Christmas tree is round, ask why. It doesn't have to be perfect, let him express himself!

With my 2 &4 year old I am making Christmas hats out of felt then letting them decorate them with glitter glue and 'jewels'. We have made christmas trees by folding paper then painting one half of tree and folding back over (like with butterflies). We are making our own crackers using toilet rolls and crape paper then decorating them with stickers. Paper chains using colored paper and either staples or sellotape to stick them together. Lanterns fold the paper in half cut along the fold 3/4 way down then decorate, fold round to make the lantern shape and use a length of paper to make handle. Snowflakes, cut circles of paper fold into eights then cut shapes out etc. Then we will make a big collage with santa, snowmen. sleigh and presents on. Hope these are enough ideas.

www.familyfun.com They have really good seasonal craft ideas for family projects for whatever age he is. The crafts are fairly simple, and don't require a lot of spending as well.
