I wish I could converse with you about your pet but I'll do what I can in this forum.
Assuming your vet ran tests for Feline Leukemia and Feline AIDS and both came back NEG, and assuming your cat is vaccinated for the other common cat diseases.
You might feel over the body and legs and head and neck to see if you can find a lump or bump or painful area.
Does the cat live indoors? If it's an outdoor cat then it has contact with bad cats that can give your cat lots of problems, medical of course.
Cats that meow all the time and are overweight could be just like humans and have Diabetes. Does the cat urinate a lot?
Take your pet back to the vet or find another vet. If you know your cat is acting oddly then that's the way they tell you something is wrong. Don't settle for any vet that doesn't understand where you're coming from on your observations.
Best of Luck and God Bless

Vets are usually pretty good at diagnosing the obvious cause of weight loss in cats, ie. cancer, hairballs, worms etc. But if you're not satisfied get a second opinion

Your vet may be missing something important.
Take him to another Vet for a second opinion.
Good Luck

Has he been checked for tapeworm? Your cat will be very thin, but eat loads, and look unhealthy. Go back to the vet, and get him checked for a tapeworm, they are worse than threadworms, will make him ill.

you should go by the opinion of your vet they are proffesionals but if you're really that worried you should get him checked out by a different vet.

Please take your pet to another vet. The one you went to first doen't seem to be very good. Your cats health is at risk so go elsewhere
