Studio sized rooms can be tricky but I think I can help you out - You mentioned reds and oranges - and that's a great place to start. Shy away from primary red and orange and work with more earth shades like autumn oranges, deep reds, and spice tones. Pick two shades of orange and two shades of red. For example lets say you selected Burnt Sienna and Autumn Maple Leaf for the Oranges and Rum Raisin and Cabernet for the Red. Of the four colors pick your favorite. Mark of a rectangular box on the wall that outlines your bed (make the box about six inches wider than the bedframe and about 4 feet taller than the top of the headboard). Fill in the marked off area with the color that you selected. Say you picked the Cabernet for that marked of area - Paint the remainder of the wall with the Burnt Sienna for contrast. Next on the two walls parallel to the bed mark of four foot by four foot squares that over lap by six inches for some and one foot for others creating a geometric grid of random proportions. Paint the inside of the boxes in alternating shades of all four colors. Finally on the wall opposite your bed draw a free hand arching line that starts at the lower left hand corner and archs all the way up to the upper right hand corner (try to make the line one long smooth arch or an "S" shape if you prefer a more curves. Paint the top one of the shades of orange and the bottom one of the shades of red. Now if you like the way each line and color touches each other your all set - if you want a more modern edge than you can match the color of you wood bed frame (the brown/black -espresso- color) and with a free hand make a rough line to soften all the edges of all the marked off boxes and curves you have painted. The earth toned colors flanked by the espresso color line softener will make a bold modern statment but but still be grounded enough in the earthened colors to make you feel like you are living in a home and not a museum.

Some more Hints: To make a real moder statement (and soften the room even more) you could have the same bamboo wood floor treatment done on the ceiling. The two surfaces will mirror each other and really add a modern edge to the room.

Don't forget about lighting - it would be terrible to spend all this time painting and working on your studio and forget about general, task and mood lighting. Make sure you set out to design specific light areas and find away to highlight everything you want in your space.

When it comes time to put linens on your bed - stay simple - studio spaces warrent only a simple duvet and a couple of standard pillows - skip the shams, dust ruffle, and accent pillows and throws.

Finally - trust your gut - don't be afraid to slap paint up on the walls - it's just that - paint. It can always be changed - nothing is permanent (except tearing down walls)

Hope this Helps!

Warm red and orange tones will help unify the sqaure. Stay away from white, though, as it will be drastic and cold. Try a golden shade or creamy antique white with the red hues.

yeah, sounds good. consider painting chair rail high on your white walls to ease the white wall and bamboo wood together using maybe a warm gold. think about it......i love red orange and i think the warm gold will allow all the walls to flow.
