David the king is the the Author of Psalm 23. I'm not sure what you are asking about numbers. But if you have or get a good study Bible most of, if not all, of your questions can be answered.

David

Psa 23:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

The numbers are just imposed by translators (not in original; texts) for easy scholarly reference. It's just a study aid and makes finding chapter and verse much easier.

Dear Princess,

Psalm 23 just as the entire Bible, is authored by God, the Lord Jesus Christ. The fact of the matter is that God used men as secretaries to write down His word and to give it to the people. The best Biblical example I can give you is found in Jeremiah 36:1-6. In addition we read in John 1:1 and 14, that Christ is the living Word. The Bible tells us that the Lord spake in parables (Mark 4:33, 34). Unless, the Lord opens your spiritual eyes, most of the Bible will be incoherent to you. The Lord mentions many times in Scripture, "If any man have ears to hear, let him hear." God is not attempting to fill up space in the Bible. He is tellin us that unless the Lord opens your spiritual ears, you will not be able to hear His commandments, let alone obey them.

David, by God's inspiration.

Numbers? Do you mean the numbers for the verses? They are man made.

Themes: The Lord guides, The Lord provides, The Lord sustains, The Lord protects, The Lord comforts, The Lord gives assurance of glorious eternal certainty.

A melody of David.

Psalm 23 is universally accepted as one of the masterpieces of all literature, but it is even more magnificent in the beautiful simplicity of its expression of loyal trust in Jehovah. Oh, that we may all ‘dwell in the house of Jehovah, the Great Shepherd, to the length of days’! (23:1, 6)
