the saltier the food, the more people will drink, so keep this in mind. as far as crepes are concerned, make a cold version; like thin smoked salmon with a bit of whipped creamed cheese; rolled up, cut in 1/4's with a plop of capers on top. 20 servings seems an aweful lot with all of the other stuff. i'd lower that to about 10. (keep in mind the hour; most would have eaten something for dinner already) 6-7 varieties tho is a good thing. congrats on your wedding

Whoever told you "heavy" might have given you a clearer idea by calling them "hearty". This means rich and nourishing. This would not mean something like little cucumber sandwiches or mini quiches. I imagine they are wanting to see Buffalo wings, stuffed potato skins, or the little sausages in some kind of sauce. They really want finger food that is as filling as a whole meal would be.

hors d'oeuvres are kind of starters. i may suggest mozarella sticks, or some fried chicken wings in a barbecue sauce. for rich hors d'oeuvres, i will suggest some avocado shrimps, in a coktail sauce.

I'm from the country too and we call them "horse doovers". You can try crostinis, tostadas, small burritos, anything you can eat with one hand.
