Fictional story. However, a lot of the things that are presented in the movie about the history of the christian religion are true. There are a lot of other books that talk about when the world rejected paganism for christianity and the way that many of the rituals within the christian religion were once pagan rituals.

I've read the Da Vinci Code and it's a great book. But the ideas in it are not factual. Even the author, Dan Brown has said so. It is a work of fiction.
For example,
- The Priory is not a real organization, but something some dude made up. Look it up in wikipedia
- The devine proportion about all living things is simply not true.
- alot of the proposed theories are simply theories. I'm not sure if they have either been proven or disproven yet. Some of them may never be proven either way because there's no proof, or the proof has been lost over time
I'm not religious, but I don't think anyone is actually stupid enough to base their faith on something meant to be a work of fiction.

It is a reasonable story. The author took some historical facts and distorted them into something entertaining, added some drama, like an historian escaping a police cordon around the most security concious art gallery in the world, then outrunning half of the Paris police force etc, etc.
Then he threw in some names and phrases that people would recognise, like Da Vinci, Templar Knights, Crusades and for enticement he added things which people had not heard about, but could "discover" more about, like Priory of Sion, Rose Line etc etc.
Then people started to think....if the P of S exists, what are they doing? why are they secret? Perhaps all of the elements in the Da Vinci Code book are real.
Sold a lot of books, didn't it?

The Bible contains 4 eyewitness accounts of Jesus' life and ministry and not one even hints that He was ever married or had children. That would have been an important thing to mention if one is writing a biography. Yes, it was unusual for a Jewish man to remain single, but that doesn't mean it never happened. The apostle Paul remained single and he expressed that he wished more could be like him so that their total devotion would be to God's kingdom. That pretty much sums up what i think about the DaVinci Code - pure fiction. I wish i could think that it was just harmless entertainment but a certain percentage of ppl will be convinced that parts or most of it is true and will consequently be steered away from the truth of Scripture.
But i have to admit that all the hype surrounding it is a great way to sell books, which is what the author wants to do.

It is a nice work of Fiction!
The book and movie were enjoyable, however, some of the situations and organizations did not exist or did not exist in the form presented in the book ( I believe the Priory of Scion is an example ).
Some of those who are anti-Christian want it to be true, but IT IS fiction. Unfortunately, it could influence others away from the real truth.
I believe it was the History Channel that did an excellent presentation of this subject. They reshow it ever now and then. Be on the watch for it.

It does'nt make for anyone to die for a lie they themselves made up, which would be the case if The Da Vinci Code were true.

The Da Vinci Code is a hoax. It is FICTION. Jesus was not married and he certainly didn't have a kid or even have sex for that matter. The Bible is not anti-women, in fact it's pro-women and says that God made both man and woman in his image are both are equally important. Dan Brown only wrote that book to make a buck from the controversy, just like OJ was going to do until his book got shut down.

It is some fact with fiction but more the creative imagination of the author himself. There is mention of this in the beginning of the book.

Only fools are dumb enough to believe that nonsense and the author is counting on the ignorance of individuals who WANT to be deluded..
Remember what the bible says:
"for the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine...but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers telling them what they WANT to hear...." (2Tim.4:2)
" Now the Spirit speaks expressly that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and doctrines of devils, speaking lies in hypocrisy..."(1Tim.4:1)
"...But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving and being deceived." (II Tim. 3:12)
