bad things are meant to be so that when you see someone in the same situation later on in life, you are not only more sympathetic, but have the experience necessary to know how to help them--I have noticed in my own life that whatever bad happens to me happens to somebody else I know later

Believing in fate means we have no choice over matters. Most bad things that happen to people is the result of an others actions. Fate has no existence of its own, its only a word.

Yes indeed I do. There is no such thing really, in real life, as coincidence!
Things happen to you for a reason(s), and your mission should be to find out what the reason(s) really is (are). People are strange, more than weird...simple envy for example can trigger whole societes against someone or some company or some....etc...
Your journey to find out what the reason(s) is (are) can be a very long, hard, enlightening and frightening one as well, depending upon what has actually happened to you of course.
On the other hand, getting through this kind of situation, toughens you up, gives you more motivation, self esteem and energy (strength).
I am personally going through something really weird, and I am learning more each day. How to tackle each new situation becomes a kind of sixth sense!
Getting through something bad makes one stronger in character and I think sometimes it also helps you to find the key to release your hidden energy. The success factor of getting through it should also compensate for the loss of energy used to get you to where you are now!
Very good question, just matches my situation! Good luck

Personally I beleive that we are all products of the forces of nature, and though we sense freedom, and are hardwired with a certain amount of "self control", ultimately there is no freedom of will behind our actions. Rather they could theoretically be traced back to causes outside of our control.
That deos not lead me to believe that things (ultimately) happen for a reason, especially a conscious one. Things just are, the universe is and 'acts', and the big bang, abiogenisis, evolution..and even this (and our ) post(s), are the result of that universal being and action without a personality behind the scenes.
Some might like to ask: "What about justice and accountability" and I answer that they are culturally evolved systems the abandonment of which would leacd to social and cultural disintegration; because evolution selects that which survives and accountability leads to cultural survival, accountability survives as a working concept in our culture.
In the future perhaps accountability will be understood better - ie its relation to neurobiology, and instead of prison and fines offenders will sometimes be given "medicine" and political projects will be initiated which target the social and familial, or even genetic, causes of crime and antisocial behaviour. I can to a degree see this already happening.
And all, to anthropomorphise things without warrant, is the 'will' of the universe, or "meant" to be. All is fate WITHOUT FREEDOM, beautiful though it can sometimes be. And the most of it, excepting ourselves, is without a mind that can think about such things.

Because what seems bad at the time may lead to something great later... Say splitting up with a guy you thought you loved and it hurt and then meeting someone who is so great. You had to split up with the first guy, in order to find something better. Sometimes bad things force you to make choices you would ordinarily be to frightened to do. Like if you lose a job it might force you into making the decision to change career which you may have wanted to do, but been too scared to do.

I believe in fate... But these things often happen because of sin. Either ours or the sin of others. Or perhaps there is a greater good that comes from these things that is beyond our perception. All we can do is learn and move on. I believe that some of these things may prepare you for the hereafter.

To answer your last question. Something that is bad in the short term, might be good in the long term. Look at your own life, I'm sure something has happened to you that at first seemed bad, but ultimately led to a good outcome. I can give you all kinds of examples in my own life and would be happy to do so. E-mail me if you want to hear some of them. I could simply list them all now, but you might not be interested so I haven't done so.
Good luck with whatever is going on. I *KNOW* God exists, but I don't know exactly how God works.
Your friend,
JR

I believe that all things happen for a reason we each have effects on everyone we meet. Fate brought me a lovely man and to him a lovely woman, who can argue with that.Just enjoy life and what fate has in store for you.
