Yep, mums can do that. You should be proud of yourself and let your mum know that you are. The more you look for her acceptance and approval, the more you will be upset with yourself. I know that you love your mum, but just be proud of yourself and stick you chest out and scream "I DID IT ALL ON MY OWN!!" I am proud of you, if that is any help. Was your mum always looking for acceptance and approval from her mum?? It could just be the way she was bought up, and she has followed the pattern. If this is so, then just make up your mind to break the pattern when you are a mum. To answer you last comment about mum's being proud and don't admit it, sometimes it is hard for some people to admit that they are proud of someone else or they have trouble even showing their feelings. Has your mum always had trouble showing her feelings?? Maybe this is your answer. Good luck and be very proud of yourself.

Don't dwell on your mother.

Keep making yourself happy and if the berating won't stop, don't talk to her anymore. You don't need someone that poisonous in your life, it doesn't matter who she is. My so-called mother is a useless failure of a parent and I haven't spoken to her for over 10 years. I don't miss her a bit.

You should never be made to feel bad.

Just keep your positive thinking to her.

I think deep in her heart she's very proud and happy to your success, but she doesn't want to make you satisfy and surrender of your life. She wants you to get the highest level of success that can you get. She doesn't want you to fail in the future.

So keep it in your mind and keep try for your future!

Sometimes nagging is a cover for worry. Block it out and think "shes just worried about me"...
