Women are not actually in combat as in the infantry. Most
women who see combat do so as helicopter pilots.
Do not get the wrong idea, now. Flying a helicopter into a battle
zone to pick up troops or wounded is probably more dangerous
then being on the ground firing a weapon at the enemy.
However, there women in actual combat during the civil war.
That is documented.

Women have always been in combat in the US forces. I think you are referring to the fact that women are not allowed to be in combat arms military occupational specialties (MOS) there are several of these, 11B (Infantry) and others like combat engineers. The fact that a female is a soldier means she may be in combat. 95B (MP) is an example. I have trained and served with female Soldiers for over 20 years. They are, in every way. Soldiers
