Why are people opposed?

Because they think we're losing. If we were winning, or at least not the steady stream of bad new (much of it bogus) then they'd be all for the war.

The "enemy" has been very skillful in their use of PR in this war, as skillful as the North Vietnamese were in the 1960's and 1970's. The response from our side has been predictable, with the same people responding in the same way as they did before.

If Iraq had WMDs, had actually supported Al Qaeda, & "Misson accomplished" had actually meant just that, I think most of the US public would have given their FULL support of the this war in Iraq. But as we all now know, all to well, Bush/Cheney didn't tell the truth about any of those things which is why so many Americans are upset about our troops dying. They know war is about dying, but unlike WW2, troops in Iraq are dying for a bunch of lies and that gets many Americans very upset.

You cannot win a war on foreign soil. I learned that in history when the Vietnam war was occurring. The British learned it during the revolutionary war. We should have learned it from the Korean war, we didn't. We should have learned it from the Vietnam war, we didn't. We should have learned it from the First Gulf War, we didn't.
Now we are caught in the middle of a civil war that has been going on for centuries...do you really think our presence is changing anything...NO. At least Saddam had them on a tight leash. It's like a kid that decides to live with his mom, because he knows he can get away with things that his dad wouldn't let him do. And no, I didn't like Saddam Hussein, but I HATE this war.

I never supported this war. I never believed it was necessary or believed the statements of the people who misled us into it.
Its still wrong and we ought not to be there.
Those of you who supported this war can fugure out how to end it.
You are acting under the assumption that I am OK with this invasion and occupation of a weakly defended country.
I guess I am having an I - told - you - so moment.

how exactly is the war in iraq benefiting the USA? it isn't in any way shape or form, a better question would have been: How could anyone possibly support this pointless waste of peoples lives?

People are ignorant about war. They seem to think things can be handled with hugs and candy. Freedom isn't free.

Preach it. But the war is over, we already won, now its just an occupation waiting for the Iraqi Government to take over

I think if you ask the average person on the street they really have no clue as to why we are there. You will get the media/liberal sponsored Bush Lied, 9/11, daddy war, blah blah blah. No one bothers to find out the truth and we sure as hell aren't going to hear it out of the liberals or the media.
