A search on Wikipedia only turned up three Buddhist holidays, none of them anywhere near Christmas.

Depending on the sect of Buddhism ,there aren’t that many Buddhist holidays. However, Buddhism is a religion of compassion and acceptance. Therefore, we celebrate what the people in our lives celebrate.

Unlike Christianity, Judaism and Islam that refuse to celebrate other religions holidays out of fear that they may upset their god, Buddhist are only concerned about others and their well being. Thus, if our families and friends celebrate Christmas, we too celebrate Christmas. We may not go to a church service, or maybe we will, but we have no problem celebrating with family and friends. The same is true of any holiday, be it Easter, Passover, Hanukkah, Maha Shivaratri, Ramadan or any other holiday. If those we are close to ask us to join them, most Buddhist will. We are strong in our beliefs and are not frightened, intimidated or confused by other peoples beliefs.

We do not need to believe that Jesus is a god to accept that Jesus was person of great love and compassion. We do need to accept that Mohamed was a profit to accept that he was a man of peace and deep convictions. We do not need to accept a supreme god such as Yahweh or Allah to accept that the teachings of these faiths teach compassion for others.

Buddhism is open to all people of all faiths to take what they will from the teachings in hope that what they take will improve their lives and help them on their path. Likewise, we are open to help others celebrate their festivals, holidays and events if we are asked.

I hope this helps.

Why would you assume that they would do anything special on Christmas? It is probably just another day to them. It would be like asking you what you did on Chinese New Year Day.

My family is Jewish and we like to spend Christmas day going to the movies (because there are no crowd, Disneyland, and eating Chinese food (only resturants that are open that day).

Happy Holidays,

A
