1)Actually there are really NO preperations for the "pain" except maybe having ice on ur tongue prior to having it pierced, it helps greatly in numbing it, the longer the better.
2)highly unlikely, best thing to do is to find a shop the has an experienced piercer, preferrably a customer that has had it done is ur best bet.
3)Mine took about 3 days, ur tongue WILL swell but that is natural, yeah u'll also have a difficult time speaking certain words too, that was most funny.
4)a speech problem is only temporary, when ur tongue returns to normal so will ur speech.
5)If u use Listerine after u put ANYTHING in ur mouth u have nothing to worry about
6)Nah, no pain when u take it out...after the healing process is done, u'll never even notice anything different when u eat anything cold or hot.
7)no the hole is barely noticeable when u take it out...best thing to do is to get a "plug" for it when u take it out. its clear, plastic, and no way interferes with anything ur dentist has to do with ur braces.
When ur tongue is pierced for the first time its a pretty traunatic thing for ur to go thru, it IS the most sensitive organ on ur body next maybe a few other places (if u get my meaning). It WILL swell slightly and in very rare cases it can swell so much where it will block off ur airway...plz remember I said it is RARE, ur more likely to get hit by lightening before that ever happens. First thing u need to do is numb ur tongue before u go in, pref. about 30-45 mins that way u will not feel a thing, next relax, breathe normally, and just realize ur doing something that alot of others secretly wish they had the nerve to do but you ARE! Keep ur mouth clean, and rinse rinse rinse with listerine regular not minty , if u put it in ur mouth, rinse afterwards, and I mean everything, esp after u eat or have a cig (if u smoke) it helps with the healing and it won't take as long. if ur tongue starts to feel painful, do not take any asperin, it thins ur blood and may make it bleed suddenly, just tough it out and remember it only temporary.
You will find out that speaking may be difficult with some words with "S" or "R" "Q". No worries thats part of the fun, but the less u speak while its healing the better.
Ok, after it all done don't worry bout the size of the hole, it will not be like the grand canyon, as a matter of fact it rarely closes up completely if u happen to leave it out for awhile because its a muscle and it doesn't "close completely like the skin or ur earlobe. and also when u take it out u may find it a lil deifficult to relocate the hole again, don't worry its still there and wil always be there u just gotta find it.
Good Luck and have fun and enjoy...I'm a guy with a barbell in mine and its a great conversation piece, yeah ppl will notice when u speak thats for sure.

Having had a piercing for several years. Here are my two cents.
1. Don't sweat the pain of the actual piercing, it's afterward that could be uncomfortable. Take a Motrin for the swelling and use putting ice on your tongue helps as well.
2. If you go to a RESPECTABLE piercer you'll be fine
3. Depends on the person, usually 2-4 weeks
4. You're speech will be messed up while it's swollen, I was speaking normally again after about 4 days. However I'm not sure about the braces... I'd talk to your piercer.
5. If you do everything that you're supposed to you should be fine, there's always risk though....
6. It doesn't hurt after it heals
7. There is no way to hide the hole from a Dentist. Not to mention if you take the post out after only a couple of weeks it will close RIDICULOUSLY fast. So if you don't want people to know, you might not want to get it.

I got my tongue pierced so I should know all of these answers:
I wouldn't take anything because it only hurts for a second
If you go to a professional who knows what they are doing the chances of them messing up are 99.9%, so don't worry about that.
It takes about a couple of days to a week for it to fully heal.
With the speach thing I heard that with some people speach does get messed up and on some people it dosen't. When I got mine done my speach was only different for a couple of days.
If you take very very good care of it, it should not get infected at all.
It should not hurt at all after it heals.
Some helpful info is if and when you get it done you will probably only want to eat cold stuff for the first full day because it will make it feel so good. Also when you do eat something you need to make sure that you rinse your mouth out with mouthwash every time. Good luck to you,and don't worry. I think they look cool, but that's only my opinion.

Just take some asprin for it, but the three days after u get it really aren't as bad as pple say it is... I have my tongue peirced twice.
It's VERY unlikely that somethin will happen to ur tongue, most peircers aren't that dumb.... dentists say it messes up ur teeth but mine are just fine so far. It's about 2-3months before u can take it out and leave it out without it closing back up.
You'll only talk funny for about 3 days after u get it, whether u have braces or not. after that you'll get used to it and everything will pretty much be just as normal as it was before...you'll have a little adjusting to do when u eat but other then that it's fine. Well if ur taking good care of it and u do what the peircer told u to do then u'll be alright. The peircer will give u a sheet of things that u can and can't do... READ THE SHEET! Once Your tongue is healed, there isnt anything painful about it. After a while of having it you'll start to forget its even there. Its really not ur doctors concern whether u have a peircing or not. But if u take it out no its not really big enough to notice.

1. no not really. i suppose you could take some sort of pain killer or whatever, but it doesnt hurt bad enough for it.
2.lol... your tongue wont die. i think the worst they could do is pierce it slanted... so it doesnt go straight. any good piercer knows how to pierce straight... unless you wiggle or something.
3. about a month... give or take a week(depends on the person)
4. your speech will go back to normal in about a week... your mouth just needs to adjust to the extra weight of the jewelry.
5. if you are taking very good care of it, it wont get infected. there is a small chance that your body wont accept the piercing, though. in that case, you are out of luck.
6. it shouldnt, but some people are sensative. its like having your ears pierced... once it heals completely, then its just like a hole in your body. skin will grow around the inside of the hole so its not always like a wound. if you take it out, well that should also be like taking out an earring - it shouldnt hurt.
7. you can take it out, but not until after it is completely healed, and even then it might close up ig you take it out for more than a day. the hole is obviously not huge(unless you gauge it) and if your doctor says something about it, he or she will most likely just ask if you are taking care of it properly
good luck and have fun with your new piercing!
oh yea and i hear they make kissing better.

1- you can put ice on your tongue to somewhat numb it
2- go to an experienced piercer only, uncontrollable bleeding can occur if an inexperienced person hits a vein or artery
3- anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months, depending on piercing size and what you do after you get it
4- for the 1st week or so your speech may be slured, but you will adapt to it and start speaking normal after a while.
5- you cannot control that, but i heard it has the hightest infection rate for any kind of piercing
6- it hurts for a few days after it heals, but it does not hurt when you remove it
7- not sure

It has no longer something to do with orientation, authentic some do it for giving yet another female excitement like men do, yet i understand alot of right this moment women with tongue piercings...a piercing or tattoo can not practice if somebody is gay or no longer.

after my 2nd tongue piercing, I took very good care and even listerined after everything, including water, and still got a hellacious infection, the surface of my tongue came off in chunks, now its all cracked and ugly and I have a white scar on my tongue
The piercing itself doesn't really hurt, but it sure hurts when your tongue swells to 3 times its regular size, you'll sound normal again in a few days when the swelling goes down
ibuprofen for pain
be careful not to get the ball caught in your braces
I just don't recommend it

it doesn't hurt bad enough to take anything.
chances of piercer messing up are slim, but it can happen. make sure you go to a place you can trust.
2-3 days
speach will only be messed up for 2-3 days until the swelling subsides.
not likely, but it can happen. depends on your oral hygine.
it doesn't hurt afterwards unless you bite it.
your dentist will notice!

It is ugly and you risk tearing your tongue out of your mouth if it catches on something.
