I think that schools reflect society as much as they choose to do so. I go to a private school which recently expelled one boy for doing drugs, suspended another four for the same thing and another three for bullying. These eight individuals reflect the ugly side of society where as I am in the top set for all my subjects and am among the top 10% in the country. The people I study with therefore reflect the side of society that will eventually be the ones doing something with their lives!
I'm not being big headed or stuck up about that, but it's true!
It's not necessarily the school that reflects society, but rather the pupils that study there.

Hello,

Sorry! but thats abit of a rhetorical question, how else could it be? Of course schools & education are a direct reflection upon our society. Our society voted the new labour government into power (& Blair sadly!! but thats another story?) and its government that has shifted or attempted to shift educational policy, its policy that shapes & informs education.

**Personally I dont like Blairs & new labours attempt to privatise by the back door most of our large scale institutions in this country. I mean the NHS, & care services for the elderly, and also education too. It all smacks of creeping privatisation, or privatisation by stealth and sadly I dont expect G.Brown to do anything differently.

**Instead of education, education, education being Blairs legacy I think it will be privatisation, privatisation, privitisation!!

**Both the children & their parents & even the teachers "are all of society", you cannot make a seperation in my opinion.

**I wonder if the real question here is in fact, how does our educational system here in the UK reflect trends in our society?

YES. A school is a social institution that prepares us for adult life. Education coupled with Family life; Religion and other sub cultures of our society all reflect the bigger picture! It's as some social scientists would suggest a process that we all must go through for us to achieve social mobility; status and security within our ever changing multicultural society.

We must however not just look at the schools i believe issues go further; we must also consider the institutional sub-cultures of our lives.

School is an educational institution within society. When the Children become adults and leave school, they must have an effect on society, during the course of time. That's why good education and behaviour are important.
But it would be nice to be able to afford expensive schooling.

Yes, I go without shoes to send my two children to private school and I am a white ordinary working class married woman. There is no way I want them mixing with the morons I see attending the local flick knife comprehensive. The Indians have this idea as well with the husband working hard at an ordinary day job like at British Airways in my area and the wife working hard running the corner shop, this is all to give their kids a good education.

It became consistently the element to take a image of a bare toddler mendacity on a rug for the album, alongside with some in the tub. Then we would action picture or video the youngsters splashing around in the tub. NOW we would probably get arrested if we tried to deliver them off to be copied or reprinted. How issues substitute. Now we are all decreased to the backside point. i became those days at Alton Towers as quickly as I got here upon a lost newborn crying broken heartedly. As I got down to convenience him and he endured to sob, as a replace of stressful with reference to the youngster, i began out to be stressful approximately what i may be in for!
