That's a hard question to answer, and a tough situation for family members who are helpless. What is the doctors' prognosis? If the person has a chance to recover, you just have to be patient and pray about it. Some comas last a few days; others can go on endlessly, it seems. Once a person comes out of a coma, they are usually okay. You often hear of extreme cases where comas last for years, but that's the exception rather than the rule, and depends on what has caused the coma -- a stroke, a severe injury, or an illness. They say people in comas can still hear, although can't respond. You might try talking to the person, and telling him or her how much you love them, give them encouragement, and positive feedback. Otherwise, trust in God to heal. Good luck, and God bless!

Hope for the best and dont let it beat you down so far that you might as well be in a coma yourself.
Remember the good times you shared with this person. Get out pictures, videos, etc.
This would also be a very good time to get closer to the rest of your family and share opinions about the matter. Dont be afraid to cry and tell them how you feel.
Just remember that this family member is still alive and can still pull through. Hope and pray that it will turn out okay.

I wish the best for you and your family during this hard time. :)

The best thing you can do is pray that they will get better, that is if you are religious. I would try to ask the doctor about the person in the coma so you can stay informed of the situation. I am very sorry to hear this news.
