'Pale' isn't very specific, but usually a lighter colour (more ochre than chestnut) means there's a high proportion of fat going straight through, without being absorbed.

That's not actually abnormal; in fact the idea that the 'calories' you eat are either used or stored is just rubbish. It's normal for your digestive system to choose the things it wants to absorb, and reject the rest (including fuels).

This is actually how fibre works as a slimming aid; it's indigestible, but it carries a lot of other nutrients with it as your body hurries it through the system.

Something is clearly making your alimentary system think that a lot of your food is indigestible. The most common cause (and it's very common) is a lack of chewing. Chemicals in saliva 'lock on' to nutrients that your body is particularly short of, to target them for absorption. Most people eat too quickly to get the saliva well mixed into the food, and there is a traditional piece of nutritional advice that simply says: "chew every bite well" (usually about 40 times, which feels like quite a lot for most foods).

What you describe seems much more extreme than that (although you could experiment with the chewing thing anyway). You may be short of digestive enzymes, absorbent structures (villi) in your gut, or chemical markers in your saliva.

If you're otherwise healthy, then you might not want to get sucked into the world of investigative medicine.

(There are plenty of known alimentary rarities - for instance, have you ever tried to eat a bicycle? Some people seem specially equipped for this trick, at the expense of other, more usual digestive abilities.)

However, it might be useful to get this checked out, because it could be one aspect of a known 'syndrome' (connected suite of seemingly unrelated symptoms) that can have other effects you may not be aware of.

Sounds like you're not chewing your food properly. Do you rush meals? Have a balanced diet / getting enough fibre? Do you drink enough water? Have you ever considered having a colonic? If you're finding semi digested food in there ( a little is normal - a lot means something isn't working along your digestive tract somewhere) then maybe talk to a dietician - they could give you advice on what to eat. It could be you have an intolerance to certain foods - best speak to a professional if you are concerned. Good luck with that!

It means: get that pale, pale-poo-ey butt to a doctor!

Unfortunately, I'm serious. You might want to call in first, because it's likely you'll have to take some poo samples. Gross but necessary. There's no way for us to tell exactly what it is, so bring that poo to your doc!

Ya, a doctor is probably the best idea. You could try purging your bowels with a day of only eating fresh plumbs and prune juice.

I'm not a doctor but I heard that when that happens, you lack a substance called bile that breaks down fats and is made in the liver.
