I'm an Atheist, but I think it is important to read the bible because I like to study theology. But I am curious, do Christians read books that are contrary to their view for the same reason?

The Bible is not a text in theology, but its source. Have you ever read a work of theology?

I've not read Sam Harris' "Letter." The reviews I have read are ambivalent about it. I will probably get it used, but it has not popped up yet at my local store.

I did. I am no longer christian. If a christian reads views that oppose those he is taught, I don't think he would remain christian. There are too many holes in the doctrine.
