Are there any regulations restricting a 17-year-old with a British driver's license from driving or renting a car in Hawaii?

In order to rent a car in Hawaii, you should be 18+ and have an international driver's license. In addition, most companies will not rent to anyone who does not posess a credit card, but Rent-A-Wreck in Lihue, Kauai will rent to people under 21 but over 18 years old who pay cash. If the intended driver is under 18, you can not rent a motor vehicle due to liability issues.

"Many of our locations will rent to qualified cash customers without credit cards, please contact any of our individual locations for specific pricing and policies."

Renting a car at 17 is totally impossible to do in the US. with or without a US drivers license. If that was possible, all the 17 yo's in the U.S would be renting cars. Gawd have mercy! LOL.

I think you would need a international drivers license - it's the same for American going abroad so I don't see why it would be different vice versa. But you won't be able to rent a car nor be put on the drivers list if someone else rented the car for you. So, unless you move here with your family and your parents buy a car for you to use, I don't see how you would be able to drive here until you turn 21.

Most car rental places here require drivers to be 25 years old. You might want to call around and see if anyone will rent to a 17 year old.

All of the car rental places we went to had it posted that you had to be 21 to rent a car. But maybe a 17 year old could rent a scooter. Not really sure.

I am not sure about driving, but renting a car is going to be a problem. I dont know any car rental agency that will rent a car to an underage driver.
