The cheaper the camera, the longer the delay between shots. The delay is based on several things. Nothing you can do about this other than purchase a more expensive camera.
1. delay between when you press the button and the camera takes the picture. Better cameras (DSLR) have no delay. No fix for less expensive (mostly under $400).
2. delay between rendering the photo and saving to the card. This can be due to the camera software and the speed of the card.

Again, cheaper cameras will have built in software that is not as good as more expensive cameras and they normally come with a cheap card.

You might be able to speed the write time up by purchasing a 150x (20 MB) transfer rate. Then again it might not.

You are experiencing the frustration of cheaper cameras and will be the same with just about any brand in the same price range.

If you spent over $400, you might have a defective camera.

You need to learn how to use a camera. I have an old A 710 that I use for a backup and it takes excellent pics. The resolution is set to the cameras max and I do NOT move the camera when shooting. It has taken over 5000 pics and they still look great on my 24" monitor. What kind of "regular" digital cameras are you using. My neighbor was whining about the crappy pics his "new" digital camera takes. It was a crap Polaroid (possibly the worst digital made) he bought at a garage sale for 5 bucks.

If you are taking flash pictures sometimes the unit has to recharge before it can fire again. If not using the flash you must have a glitch in the camera. Try resetting to defaults in the preset area.

It's a toy camera. There are no quality parts in its manufacture. It's slung together with the cheapest parts that can be found. It does what you paid for it.
