The 12 Apostles were the first bishops. They began ordaining more to become bishops, priests, and deacons. John was the only apostle of the 12 that was not martyred. Paul was not of the original 12, but he became an apostle and was martyred, he was beheaded.

The New Testament has many of their books. Obviously Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, and Peter to name some. Judas of course killed himself. The other have much of their tale told in Acts of the Apostles so check that out for now.

pretty sure there were 70 or more apostles. Barnabuses works can be found in Spain, and Andrews in Asia. One went to Africa and his works are there in Ethiopia I think. Many works exist round the world. Some were martyred early on.

one opened up an uncle johns pizza shop, another wrote 'the peter principal' a pair of them started a candy company--peter paul (almond joy), and another had a goat named after it. nobody knows what happened to the others.
