My dog was in a dog fight yesterday with a pit bull. The pit bull just attacked her out of nowhere. I know the owners of the pit bull so I am not worried about my dog having rabies. After the fight I checked my dog fully for any damage. All I saw was was a few scratches on her back and one on her leg. Today I was rubbing behind her ears and she cried out, I felt something moist and when I looked behind her ear I found a clean cut/puncture. I am not going to sue the owners of the other dog or anything crazy like that. I am just concerned for the health of my dog. The cut is not hot or swollen and there is no abnormal discharge coming from it. My dog is acting 100% like her self (I didnt even know she was hurt until today). I cleaned out the cut with band-aid wash for cuts and applied some new skin on the cut. My dog seems to be doing ok but I dont know if I should take her to the vet or not. Taking her to the vet today is not an option because its closed...any advice?

The owner of the pitt bull felt really bad over what happaned. He had to bring his dog to the vet because he had kicked his dog that hard trying to break up the fight. The dog has never done this before, but that doesnt mean it wont happen again and the owner of the pitt is fully aware of that and he is taking the necessary steps for the dog.

Animals have very good imune systems. Just watch and make sure it scabs over, once that is done it will heal on it's own. If it gets infected the best thing to do is squeeze the puss out. After that pour rubbing alchohol on it, just a little, and let it heal on it's own. Animals heal on their own in nature, they don't need much human help.

Until you can take your dog to vet for antibiotics put some Neosporin with pain relief on the clean puncture or over the new skin.

It is great your dog wasn't hurt more seriously. But I really think you need to report the dog bite! How bad would you feel if the dog continued on this path and bite a child and you never warned anyone? Pit bulls are wonderful loving dogs that have other dog aggression in them. If they are allowed to continue this behavior it escalates and gets worse.

Reporting this dog doesn't make you a bad person!!!!!

A puncture wound from a Pit Bull can be deeper than it may appear. I don't recommend the New Skin and your Vet may want to start your dog on antibiotics to prevent infection. Check with your Vet on the New Skin thing and be sure to mention it is a puncture wound from a Pit Bull and you put the New Skin on a day after the wound.

If you let the pitt bull's owners by with this it's likely only a short time untill the pit takes down your dog or you for good. Take you dog ot the vet and give them the bill and tellthem if you catch the animal on the street againyou are going to hav eit picked up.'
Don't let this go. They are extremely dangerious animals and could kill some one or a pet.
In every city or state I know of they are banned or have to be tied up inside a fence.

Every single owner of a pitt bull which has slain a kid or harmed one has singed the praise of how wonderful they are how misguided the public view them.
Consider yourself lucky you were not hurt as well. Your dog is very lucky it wasn't killed.
YOu should report the attack to the authorities and have the animal removed form your neighborhood.
Good friends, or neighbors don't keep pit bulls, only extremely dumb or misguided or evil people keep pit bulls.

I would keep a very close watch on the wound. Since you know the dog that hurt yours, and you know it is up to date with its shots, I would only be concerned about infection. However, since you cleaned out the wound well and covered it, I don't even think that would worry me all that much.

If it seems that it is getting worse, or bothering the dog, then I would take it to the vet.

Many dog bite wounds get infected. The vet usually cleans them out good and gives the dog antibiotics to keep down the risk of infection. I would take the dog to the vet just to be sure he is okay.

hello,
I think you should see how he is feeling tomorrow! And no matter what call tomorrow. the only thing i am concerd about is that my dog a couple years ago got attacked by another dog and I did know the owners, so i figured it had no diseses. But little did I know what was in store for me. I did not call the vet or bring my dog there, I thought she was fine she acting normal, but 3 days later I came home and she was lying in the floor in pain, and the dog that attacked her had nothing wrong with her, but her teeth got in there so deep in tore her muscle.... So I would call the vet and most likley they will tell you to go it, even if you dont think it is bad I would bring her in, but It is your choice because none of us awnsering the qusetion nose your dog, so your call
Hope that helped

I would take her to the vet just have him look at it. If it was still moist that long after it happened it must have been pretty deep. It could get infected. The vet may want to put your dog on antibiotics as a precaution.

Just buy some anti-bacterial or antibiotic ointment for dogs, at your local petstore. That will help promote healing and lessen chance of infection.
Unless it's a deep puncture, I wouldn't worry about taking her to a vet.

Take your dog to the vet ASAP!!!!!! Your dogs needs to be put on antibiotics right away, like yesterday! Call the vet the first thing in the morning. I wish your dog well and hope this never happens to him/her ever again.
