I am an aspiring photographer with a broken camera. I have a photo shoot coming up and my camera won't be back from being repaired in time.

Not sure where you're located but if you're near to a Wolf's (Ritz) or Calumet store they may do rentals - I know the Calumet in Boston certainly does.

Expect to pay anywhere between $150 and $250 per day. In Calumet's May '06 rental catalogue a Canon 20D is listed at $150/day and $450/week. Nikon D70s at $125/$375.

If you're not near one of those your best bet may be the yellow pages.

A digital SLR will be better at first. In fact, you don't even need an SLR at first, until you're more experienced. The photographer takes the pictures, not the camera. With a digital camera you can practice as much as you like without worrying about wasting money on the materials used in bad shots.

If you are in the Washington, DC metro area, Penn Camera also rents digital cameras.

Warning - unless you are very familiar to the camera store, be prepared to put down a sizable deposit. The cameras cost a lot of money and they don't want someone damaging them without a way to recoup the money.
