the hygenist does whats called a debridement at first, then a scaling and root plaining. they should have all the information you need at your dentist office. you might neet to be consulted by a periodontist, but thats not likely.

There is a procedure used that is like having your teeth cleaned professionally, except the dentist or periodontist cleans deeper below the gum line to get rid of all the plaque and tartar that destroys gum tissue. Theoretically, the gums are then healthier and often regenerate. This treatment does not cause undue pain or discomfort, but the gums may be a little tender afterwards.

there's a procedure involving gingival graft. they get gum tissue from the palate and suture them to the receded area. =)
