My boyfriend of a year and a half are buying a home together and will be getting married within the next year.
This morning he told me he had a surprise for me- it was a beautiful rottie puppy.
I was so excited, and immediatley picked out the name "Bella" (it means beautiful)..
He laughed and told me he let his kids (ages 16, 6, and 4) pick out the dogs name Kasey...
Although I am thankful for the "gift" I do not want the dog's name to be Kasey.....
I asked him if it was a family gift, or a gift for me- and he said he got her for me- but he thought it was OK for the kids to name it-
right now I really am peeved that "I" got a dog but have no rights to it-

If it is your puppy given to you as a gift, then you have all rights to name the puppy. If he had wanted his children to name the puppy, then he was giving the puppy to his children. He needs to explain to his children that the puppy is a gift for you and never should have encouraged his children to name the puppy for you.

Honestly, if you are truly angry about this I believe there might be more to this than just naming a puppy. Maybe it has more to do with his lack of insincerity. Do you feel he has a tendency to put your needs last?

If it is your dog than why can't you name it? I totally agree with you. Explain to him when the kids arent around that you don't want your dogs name to be Kasey and if he really loves you then he will understand. Also talk to his kids and make sure they understand why you dont want her name to be Kasey and I'm sure him and his chilldren will understand. But if he does not listen to you and insists that the kids name her, then tell him that the kids can have it.

I also like the name Bella. Its a beautiful name. Good Luck!!

You could just name the dog Bella Kasey and let the whole thing drop. The dog will come to both names.....

You better think twice before marrying a man who already controls some aspects of your life. The way I look at it, the dog is not yours, but you will end up with the responsabilities of caring for it. Your rights will be to clean poop and pee and feed it. Sorry, but it is my opinion.

Tell him to give it to the kids since they've already named it, if the dog is yours put your foot down and tell EVERYONE her name is Bella!!!

The dog was a gift to you, and he should have let you name it!

It was your gift, so you should get to name her. When the kids walk her, train her, feed her, and clean up after her, they should get to name her.

He is sooooooooo wrong!!! He can get his kids another pet, like a fish or something to name, even pet rocks.

If it's your puppy, then name it! If he insist that the kids name it, then let the kids have it.
