Christians have told me that I would be tortured for all of eternity in a lake of fire by their loving and just god.

In a friendly conversation about philosphy and faith among a half dozen college students of varying faiths, a Pentacostal student stood up angrily when I said I was an atheist. He said that was the last straw, condemned us all to hell and told me personally that he hoped my time would come soon.

I'm not athiest but most often atheists are "insulted " by telling them that they are going to burn in hell forever or something like that, and to be honest with you, I don't understand that - if you're an athiest you don't believe in hell so are you really going to be insulted by being told you are going to spend eternity in a place you don't believe exists in the first place.

in their view? "you know youre going to hell right?" its either that or "how can you believe that? youre so stupid!! what prevents you from going and killing someone just because? without a god, you dont have any moral backing for you actions, etc." the second one is just downright offensive and basically says that i have no brain in my head, and that the only reason people arent killing and eating each other is because of god.

When I was an Atheist, people kept insisting that it was a religion, when it was actually a total lack of religion.
I could not see why they did not get it.

After asking me if I celebrated Christmas, etc. they said "What is your family like? Do you love each other?"
The thought that we aren't capable of love? Wow.
