That isnt a realistic goal. Aim for 20lb in that time and you may suceed.
Cut portion sizes and cut out fatty and sugary foods, eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Google the GI Diet by Rick Gallup and take a look at that. Its not a fad diet, its halthy and easy to keep to.
Exercise every day for at least 30mins a day...good luck...;

Counting calories is the wrong way to go about it. We have young men eating 3500 kCal a day while losing several pounds a week. They're undergoing basic military training at places like Parris Island, Fort Leonard Wood, Lackland Air Force Base and Great Lakes Naval Training Center. To put it another way, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Trying to shed pounds without exercise is actually very counterproductive - you'll lose muscle too, and your body won't discriminate between your biceps and your heart - which is muscle you can't afford to lose.
If you're concerned about your weight and need to lose that much that fast, first thing is to see your physician to make sure you're healthy enough to do so, then join a health club and work with their trainer(s) on developing a program that'll bring you within reach of your weight loss goal. Or - you could consider enlisting. Either way, it's simply not safe to try and lose weight through diet alone. Good luck!

I saw a report recently that said to loose weight all you have to do is cut out 100 calories a day from your present diet and take at least 1000 steps a day.

This doctor said that when you are out shopping, don't park in the nearest place, park farther from the entrance to the mall and walk. Don't take the elevator or escalator, take the stairs. Walk every chance you get, and you will loose weight in no time.

It made sense to me.

Your daily calorific input will be based on what's best for you, we cannot answer not knowing your gender or starting weight. As has been mentioned you should aim for 2lb of loss per week any more could be unsustainable and more importantly unhealthy. Best of luck!!
