any info would be apprieciated. i have a band and we all live within driving distance of washington D.C. we'd like to get info on venues or anywhere we could play and possibly get signed. everyone we know expects this band to fail, and we give up and go to college. but we were thinking if we got involved it would be a great opportunity. does anybody have any info?

Actually Baltimore might be a better place to start looking. DC used to have an amazing punk scene but it's been literally decades since it's been much of anything. There's a small Emo/Screamo scene but not too much else going on these days. Kind of sad when you consider we were home to Black Flag at one point in time!

Baltimore seems to have a much more active music scene these days. I'd recommend checking out Reptilian Records (they just moved so I don't know their new address but I bet you can find it on Google pretty easily), they're a Baltimore record store and label so they can probably point you in the right direction. Also check out Dangerous Pies on Fells Point; the owner is a longtime fixture in the DC/Baltimore music scenes and you can meet a lot of cool people in the industry if you spend enough time there.

Baltimore has a lot more venues, too; in DC, I'd check with DC9, Velvet Lounge and the Red and the Black for the chance to play. The Black Cat and the 9:30 Club are great exposure but rarely (if ever) book unknown acts, even in opening slots.
