Everytime I double click C:\ in "My Computer" I get error msg "Access Denied" but I can explore it using explorer, when I right click the icon I the OPEN option is on top in BOLD i guess that command gets executed when I dound click it,

Any ideas what the problem might be,
OS is Win XP Professional

HI Everyone

It my personal Laptop, I have admin rights, it was working fine untill lastnight, i did check for viruses, it clean now, all other drives are working fine, the right click menu for other drives shows EXPLORE as highlighted option, its only for C Drive OPEN is highlighted and executed when double clicked

your not set up as the administrator. you have user or guest rights only which give you read only access rights. is it your computer or a school computer which they do that to you so you cant mess with it.... Right click on the C drive, then click properties then click on the security box and see if you still have full rights it might of changed itself I've had is do it to me!!

I came across this at work the other day. You are probably logged on as a non-administrator user, and access to C:\ for ordinary users has been limited. Try change your User account to an Admin one, or log on as Admin

You insatll a standard antivirus soft ware such as Norton, AVG , Avast ( free antivirus software and Ad-aware, Ewido ( free spyware removers). You can download free softwares at

Right click and select "sharing and security" then on the security tab. Make sure that your userid is in there.

download advanced windows care v2 it will tweak all register errors.i would think its probably something very simple but cleaning the register is best with windows care.
