if my dog is microchiped, can i change the contact information?

i need to sell my lab because he is just not happy here (needs more space) he has a micro chip, and if i sell him, can his new owners put in their contact information on his microchip, or will my information always be there?

To avoid disputes of ownership, HomeAgain Pet Recovery Service requires that the new Primary Contact provide with the pet's original Confirmation Letter. If you bought the dog from another individual, that person needs to contact the microchip company to authorize a change. You can't just say the dog is yours now and put my name on file. If you got the dog from a shelter, the microchip probably isn't registered under any name yet, and you can provide your information. If you don't know the microchip company or #, go to your vet and get your dog scanned. Buying another will just muddle the process. If your dog gets lost, he'll scan with two different chips, two different owners. The first owner (oldest microchip) is considered the rightful owner. I have no idea what they cost over there. Here in the states, microchips run from $30 to $60.

Absolutely, yes. If you can find your microchip paperwork, just look up the phone number or website address. If you can't find it, take your lab over to the vet and have them scan the chip for the information. Then you can contact the company for instructions on how to transfer ownership information.

Just tell the new owners that he has a microchip and tell them to go to the vet and tell them that the information needs to be changed so they will change it and everything will be good.

Yes you can change the information. Just take him to the humanes society or if you have his microchip number simply call them and give them the new information along with his chip ID number. Vets also can do it as long as they provide that type of service.

Yes you can change it. I think there are multiple companies now, but in my experience you fill out a form and pay a fee. My company did not offer this online. I had to go to the vet and get a brochure that included the change form, then mail it in with payment.

You should be able to change this info, as owner contact info or pet may transfer owners all together...contact the people who chipped your dog for more information...

You can change the contact info, just call the people you got her chiped through and they will update everything.
