receives an automated promotion to PFC (E-2). there is also the series honor man and the company honor man receives a promotion to lance corporal (E-3). the guide is not nescerrally guaranteed to become homor man because in my platoon, the scribe (secretary) became the honor man. he was a smart bookworm! lol, well my question is, do the other services have honor recruits for basic training and if they do are the honorably promoted as well?

The Navy does not have it within Basic Training, but we do have another program during "A" school that can lead to an honor promotion.

Its called AAP, Accelerated Advancement Program. If a student does exceptionally well, performs above and beyond what is expected of them, and passes a board of experienced sailors, he or she can reach their first command as an (E4) Third Class Petty Officer.

So, yes, the Navy has something close to that.

When I was in the army, the drill sergeants promoted a couple of soldiers to E-2 at the end of basic, which they had the ability to do, but it's up to them to decide who would get such a promotion.

More reliable ways to get promoted in the Army is have college credits, sign up a friend I believe, or score a certain amount of the PT tests before basic even starts (I'm not positive on the last one though), also the eagle scouts as mentioned earlier. I joined the Army as E-3 due to college credits years ago at anyrate.

No they are not. I have been in the navy for 10 years and that doesn't exist in the navy. Unless you had prior training, such as JROTC in High School or ROTC in College * but if you went to college you'd be an 0-1* In the Navy after you serve 4 years in High School JROTC you are automatically promoted to an Seaman (E-3) after bootcamp. Other branches do the same as well. The Army will promote you to an E-2 and the Airforce and E-2 as well.

The others have answered your question relative to the other branches of service. I would like to add what I know about the Marine Corps policy of offering rank out of boot camp.

I was one of the fortunate souls who earned a stripe in boot camp. Back then (pre-Vietnam) the awards were limited to three per platoon. You're right about guide's not being a shoe-in for this, because I beat out one of the guide's for this award.

Recently, I was visiting a MEPS center on business and talking with the NCO in charge. While we were talking this guy came up to the NCO and said that he had the names that he promised to submit to the recruiting office.

It seems, the Marine Corps has dirtied up this little tribute to their better recruits who would get a stripe for their efforts, by offering this incentive to any recruit who offered a name of someone who the Marine Corps is successful in recruiting. The guy that approach the NCO who I was talking with that day, was the father of one of the new enlistees who was already off to boot camp.

I wasn't disturbed with the Marine Corps for doing this, because they do what they have to do to keep their recruiting on schedule. But, I sure wanted to punch that ****** in the face who was offering up someone else's son, so that he could help his own kid earn a stripe that he truly did not earn!

The Navy had exactly the same thing. They did the same for A school as well..No one could be promoted past E-3, however.
