My dad who is now 53 and has always been thin was fed the standard butterton diet - meat, potatoes, lots of butter. His mom stayed at home, cooked every meal. She baked too, but not all of the time. He drank milk straight from the cow, very high in fat. However, he doesn't not and never did snack. Breakfast, lunch and dinner and that's it. All three meals were consumed at the table (except for lunch at school). Nothing quick and easy, no fast food, no snack bars, etc. Also, he never consumed drinks with dinner. Since everything was homemade, there were very little preservatives. Also, these other things you described were pretty rare I think, because in the 50's, usually only one parent worked so there was little money left over for fun like you've described.
