How many of you are totally annoyed with that statement and think that it stunts and cripples the development and growth of most people.

I know someone who's a really nice sweet person, however he believes that he's paying for his father's sins. This thought makes him accept his life situations and not "believe" that he can do better for himself. We all know that negative thoughts and lack of self-assurance brings negative results.

I feel so angry at the ones who program these thoughts into the minds of children so much that they go through their entire lives living in fear!

Well you pretty much answered your own question..thoroughly I might add. That's a silly Catholic guilt mechanism designed to control people when a person who knows better wants to control them. I'd imagine that the people that dish out this nonsense rarely believe it, it simply gives them more control in other peoples lives. Good to see you see better than that :)

This is not true of Christian or Judaic doctrines.

It doesn't mean that you have to pay for your fathers sins, it means that you will commit the same sins, unless taught otherwise and repent.

(Eze 18:20) The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
(Eze 18:21) But if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die.
(Eze 18:22) All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live.
(Eze 18:23) Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?
(Eze 18:24) But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned: in his trespass that he hath trespassed, and in his sin that he hath sinned, in them shall he die.
(Eze 18:25) Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. Hear now, O house of Israel; Is not my way equal? are not your ways unequal?

There is a follow up of this scripture which says each man will now pay for his own sin. If someone doesn't read it all they miss the mark and use their own understanding without all the answer

Religious people are sheep. Maybe when they learn to think for themselves the cycle can be broken. All it takes is one generation to think for themselves.
