A Caribbean women I know always says axe instead of ask. A lot of Caribbean people do for some reason.

It's because they think it sounds cool. In reality it makes you sound like a subliterate imbicile. It's ask not ax. An ax is what anybody who listens to you wants to bury into your fat skull. And pull up your damn pants. If your mom still drives you to school you're not a "gangsta".

It's not "arks", it's "aks".
And it's not just black people. I've noticed when I've gone to cities in the northern U.S. that I hear people of all races say that.
I guess they just find it hard to pronounce.

It depends on what part of the country there from.With so many different accents and dialects,it is hard to distinguish what they are saying.

I wondered that to, Patrick in Eastenders always says aks and aksed, and I cant but help listen out for it now, which drives me nuts!
