There are 2 ways.

You can search the internet for a free audio conversion program.

You can burn the files to a music cd and then rip them back as mp3 files.

what exactly are the files?, are they audio from a DVD, or an actual AVI video file?
What yuo could do for that is use a program called DVD to AVI.
Or use any free DVD audio ripper.
If you already have the files on a DVD, insert the disc, get the prgram, and then:

- First, make sure your settings are correct. Select the Audio tab. Select your Output Method to "Decode to WAV."
- Exit that, select File, then Open. Navigate your way to the DVD's VOB files, and select the first one. DVD2AVI will also plug in any other VOBs that are part of the title. Select OK.
- Now, go into File again and select Save Project. Select where you want your WAV file to save, give it a name, and hit Save. The processing will begin.
- When finished you will have two files. One is the WAV file; another is a D2V file, which you can delete. Voila!
